Should Canada's federal government ban children younger than 16 from social media platforms?
Background: On June 10, 2026, the federal Liberal government introduced Bill C-34, the Safe Social Media Act which, among other things, will ban children under the age of 16 from social media platforms, regulate social media, and impose controls on artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots. Bill C-34 will also give the federal government extraordinary new powers over what Canadians may do, see, or say online. The bill will also create a new national Internet watchdog agency called the Digital Safety Commission of Canada. We'll take just 1-2 minutes of your time.
