Canada's justice system must keep repeat violent offenders behind bars – where they belong. The standard for repeat violent offenders must be jail not bail.

The Petition
Whereas the previous Liberal government's soft-on-crime policies have unleashed a wave of violent crime across our country;
Whereas increasing numbers of Oshawa residents feel uneasy walking their neighbourhood streets or taking public transit;
Whereas the previous Liberal government passed into law Bill C-5 (November 2022) which repealed mandatory minimum sentences for gun crimes and, simultaneously, expanded the use of house arrest for violent criminals – allowing many to serve their sentences in the very communities they terrorized; and,
And whereas all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers – along with every major police association and the Durham Regional Police Service – have called upon federal legislators to reform Canada’s bail system,
Therefore
We call upon the Prime Minister and his government to end the cycle of catch-and-release justice by urgently reforming Canada's bail system to keep repeat violent offenders behind bars.
