Consumer interest in purchasing a new electric vehicles (EVs) hit a big roadblock in recent months. Amidst Canada's prolonged cost-of-living crisis, demand for EVs has plummeted after being propped up by short-lived federal and provincial rebate/incentive programs.
Higher numbers of Canadians will not consider buying an EV owing to issues with cold weather, limited range, a lack of operational charging stations and, significantly, far higher purchase prices – as much as 20-30% more than a comparable light duty vehicle model powered by a gasoline or diesel internal combustion engine (ICE).
More alarmingly, in 2025, the average price of a new automoble in Canada hit a staggering $67,000, double the transaction cost of just a decade ago.
Yet despite all the evidence and obvious barriers, and steady drop in consumer interest, the federal Liberal government insists on pressing ahead with its ZEV Mandate, in place for the past year, which will ban the sale of all new gas- or diesel-powered cars, SUVs and pickup trucks in Canada by 2035 – less than 10 years from now.
Don’t you deserve the freedom to choose a vehicle which best suits your family's needs and budget?
Join us in demanding the repeal the Liberals’ ZEV mandate and the coming ban on gas- and diesel-powered vehicles.

The Petition
Whereas starting with model year 2026, the Liberal government will force Canadian automotive manufacturers and importers to make Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) 20% of their sales and, by 2035, prohibit the sale of all new gas- or diesel-fuelled light duty vehicles (cars, SUVs and pickup trucks) under the government's ZEV Mandate regulations;
Whereas these regulations will drive up the cost of a new vehicles by an estimated $20,000 – during a prolonged cost-of-living crisis – impacting families, commuters, small business and tradespeople;
Whereas the federal ZEV mandate will kill thousands of good-paying jobs in Canada's automobile assembly and parts manufacturing sectors and threaten the survival of local service shops;
Whereas a growing number of Canadian automotive industry voices, workers, consumer advocates – and many environmentalists – acknowledge that the ZEV mandate is unrealistic, unsustainable and unattainable;
And whereas Oshawa's constituents should have the right to choose the type of vehicle and technology (gas, diesel, hybrid, etc.) which suits their needs and household budget,
Therefore
We, the undersigned, demand the immediate repeal of the Liberal government's ban on gas- and diesel-powered light duty vehicles.
