Your house, apartment or condo is likely your most important investment.
You've worked hard to buy your home and you've paid down your mortgage in good faith.
But it's become clear that the Carney government – and even the NDP – can't keep their hands off your home's equity.
Prime Minister Carney, his new housing minister (failed former Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson) and the NDP continue to view your home's equity as a potential source of massive new federal tax revenue.
Don't you deserve the same fairness accorded to past generations of homeowners?
Join our call and add your name below.
Tell the Prime Minister, his housing minister and the NDP to keep their hands off your home equity.
Families and homeowners across Oshawa will be grateful for your solidarity and support.
The Petition
Whereas:
We've worked hard to build equity in our homes and may use that equity to buy a new home, or to provide for our retirement and our family;
The proceeds from the sale of a primary residence have always been exempt from federal taxes;
A new national home equity tax is unfair to everyone particularly older Canadians; and,
Homeowners should not be taxed on the equity earned on their principal residence.
Therefore:
We, the undersigned, call upon Prime Minister Carney, his Cabinet and the NDP to:
1. Reject all proposals for a new federal home equity tax;
2. Eliminate the previous Trudeau Liberal government’s 2016 requirement for homeowners to report the sale of their principal residence to the Canada Revenue Agency on their federal tax return; and,
3. Stop the flow of all public funds to Generation Squeeze and end all government studies on a new home equity tax.
